Every measurement is categorised under EU Directive 2006/7/EC in four quality classes: excellent, good, sufficient and poor. The core indicators are the intestinal bacteria Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci.
Sampling runs from 15 May to 30 September, typically in two-week cycles. The annual grade is computed from all measurements in the last four seasons.
